Burt Shavitz

Burt Shavitz, the co-founder for the popular personal care products brand, Burt’s Bees, has been reported to have died at aged 80 on Sunday 6th July 2015.

He was an unconventional US beekeeper who passed away among his family and friends in his home town, Maine, due to respiratory complications. (source).

Burt’s Bees, is well known all around the world with Mr Shavitz’s iconic face and scraggly beard featured on the packaging of his line of products.

Success Story Of Burt’s Bees

Before Mr Shavitz became a beekeeper and launching the very successful, Burt’s Bees business, he was a New York City-based photographer whose photos were published in magazines such as Time and Life. (source)

It was in 1984 in Maine where Mr Shavitz first met his partner, Roxanne Quimby, while hitching.

Mr Shavitz had a honey business at that time. So when the company, Burt’s Bees, was founded, the pair began making and selling candles from the excess beeswax provided by the beehives.

By 1991, the Burt’s Bees product range had expanded to include other natural products not just candles. These products were natural soaps, perfumes, and lip balm.

The Burt’s Bees best-selling product is the lipbalm. It is still the best-seller today!

So Burt’s Bees was eventually relocated to North Carolina to be closer to other personal care product manufacturers.

This successful company eventually went global in 1999, and in 2007, Clorox bought Burt’s Bees for a reported $US925 million.

From 2007 to now, Burt’s Bees manufactured over 197 personal care products, which are distributed in almost 30,000 retail outlets across the world from their headquarters in North Carolina.

Personal Experience With Burt’s Bees Products

My favorite Burt’s Bees products is their lip care range. I really love their wide range of lip colors. I have experience with the lipbalms have been a very positive one.

Rather than wearing products that are branded as “lipsticks”, which costs anywhere from $AU20 – $AU40,  I just use the Burt’s Bees lip Shimmer. It’s much cheaper and also 100% natural!

The below is a before and after shot that I have taken of my lips. I used the Burt’s Bees Watermelon Lip Shimmer.

Burt’s Bees products can be bought in many places such as chemists, grocery stores, health shops, and online. But I enjoy the convenience of online shopping, so sometimes I purchase my Burt’s Bees products online at eVitamins.

The lip shimmer costs $4.99. It’s SO CHEAP! :) You can check it out online here. CLICK HERE!
