When we meet a new person, the first thing that people notice is our physical appearance. Our physical appearance is linked to our self esteem.
If we know that we look good, we also feel good and our confidence lifts up. So if a person has an acne problem or bad skin, it can cripple their confidence too.
There are things that you can do to improve your skin’s complexion.

Organic Facial Ritual To Control Acne
You can use the certified organic skin care products from the Miessence range to give yourself a luxurious organic facial everyday for your skin health and to control your acne problem.
For four years, I have been using the Miessence skin care products and haven’t looked elsewhere. Based on my personal experience with these products, I truly believe that people can use these products to control their acne problem or even get rid of it.
There are no harsh chemicals involved and won’t dry out your skin.
9 Step Anti-Acne Routine
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleanse your skin twice daily (am/pm) with Miessence Purifying Cleanser. This gentle cleanser will remove the top layer of dead skin cells, oil, perspiration and pollution.
If you want to learn more about the ingredients in this cleanser, you can read my post on the benefits of using certified organic skin care HERE
Step 2: Exfoliate
Use the Miessence Garnet Exfoliant to polish and decongest skin for a more radiant complexion. This will scrub away dead skin cells and reduce blackheads too.
For normal, combination, oily, or clogged skin, use it a few times a week. But do avoid exfoliating blemished skin though as this would spread bacteria to surrounding unaffected areas.
Step 3: Mask
Use a clay-based mask, Miessence Purifying Mineral Mask, to draw out toxins from within the skin so that they can be washed away.
All you need to do is make a paste by combining 1 tsp of the powder clay mask with 1 tsp of water and apply it on your face with a fan brush for 10 – 15 minutes, then rinse off.
For normal, combination, or oily skin, use twice a week.
But if you have an acne problem, then use daily for a week, then every second day for a week, then twice weekly until congestion and blemishes have disappeared.
Note: To avoid skin dehydration from the mask treatment, it is important to follow with the below steps to protect the skin.
Step 4: Brighten
To lighten and brighten your complexion, you can use the Miessence Probiotic Skin Brightener. This may improve photo damaged skin too. Use twice daily (am/pm).
Step 5: Condition
Feed and hydrate your skin with nutrients in the water-soluble botanicals, organic herbs and essential oils with Miessence Skin Conditioner. This will prepare the skin to lock in moisture when you get to Step 7. Use twice daily (am/pm).
Step 6: Treatment
Use the Miessence Purifying Blemish Gel, by patting the product on affected areas such as blemishes, pimples, and cuts on the skin. Use twice daily (am/pm).
Step 7: Moisturise
Must use a moisturiser to hydrate skin and create a protective barrier against harmful things such as free radicals, and prevent moisture loss. Use daily (am/pm). For problem or oily skin, use the Miessence Purifying Moisturiser.
Step 8: Serum
Use serums to lock in hydration and for a deep moisturisation. The eyes and neck area have delicate skin, so you can use the Miessence Eye & Neck Serum for these areas. You can use the Miessence Rejuvenessence Facial Serum nightly to help regenerate and revitalise the complexion.
You can read my organic review of the Rejuvenessence Facial Serum HERE
Step 9: Mineral Makeup (if you are a woman)
You may like to try out the Miessence cosmetic range. Their liquid foundations (translucent foundation) and Mineral Powders contain a natural mineral called zinc oxide that gives your skin some protection against UV rays and free radicals. Acne can flare up with heat, so wearing makeup with SPF is recommended.
There are many other products there too other than the skin care range. You can basically live a chemical-free lifestyle by using all the products in the Miessence range.
If you have an acne problem, it is best to look after yourself internally and externally.
I hope you have enjoyed this article. This post is only based on my own opinion and experiences. Your experiences would be different.
The anti-acne routine is a guideline to control your skin problem. It has worked for me and I don’t have any pimples on my skin. I can’t guarantee anyone that they will achieve the same result, but it is worth a try if nothing has worked for you.
If you experience any other problems, it’s best to see your doctor.

It is very common for people to assume that just because a product contains 100% natural ingredients that it must also be hypoallergenic. In fact this is not always the case. Natural products and allergies have been reported before.
A recent article appeared in ABC13 Eyewitness News about a severe allergy reaction caused by a common preservative found in natural and hypoallergenic products called methylchloroisothiazolinone. You can have a read of this article here. CLICK HERE
Like any new product that you have not tried before, regardless of whether it is natural or certified organic, it is highly recommended that you do a patch test first to see how your skin reacts to the ingredients of that product.
Patch Test Prior To Trying New Product
Patch test is so important when it comes to trying out new products and should not be ignored regardless of your age or ethnic background. A 2004 study reported that 10% of adults in the United States and Europe suffered from adverse reactions to cosmetics, as well as 30% being vulnerable to allergic contact dermatitis.
A patch test can simply be conducted by dabbing a small amount of preparation onto sensitive areas such as the pulse of your wrist, the crook of your elbow, or the back of your ears. Leave it on for 24 – 48 hours and watch for any adverse reactions.
Typical signs of allergic reaction includes redness, a rash, any form of breakouts on the skin, itchiness, pain, flaking etc. Other possible signs may also include nausea or respiratory reactions. But if any signs are present, it’s best not to use the product. If you do, it is highly likely you are going to experience an allergic reaction with that new product that you just bought.
Be Careful of the ‘Natural’ or ‘Organic’ claim
It is without a doubt that people are choosing more natural alternatives for their lifestyle. So there is that demand for natural products in the market. But the problem is that there is no regulation for using the word ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ in packaging.
A company or brand can still state that their product is made with natural ingredient’s even though a small percentage of a “not so natural” ingredient is used in their product.
If you are not good with reading labels, you should consider natural products that have the third party certification such as the Natural Products Association Seal. This certification is your assurance of authenticity when shopping for natural products.
The same principle applies for organic products too. Choose organic products that have been certified by a third party such as ACO (Australian Certified Organic) or USDA (US Department of Agriculture). Read more on certification here. CLICK HERE

Detox Process With Natural And Organic Products
Do you know that when you switch from using chemical products to natural and organic ones, there is a detoxing process that your body goes through? The detoxification process means that your body is trying to get rid of those toxins that have accumulated in your body from years of using chemical-ladened products.
This detoxification process may last for the first few weeks when you start to use natural and organic products. Everyone may experience different things during the detoxing process. Some people don’t experience anything at all. It just varies from person to person.
For example, commercial hair products usually contain ingredients such as dimethicone, cylcomethicone, other chemicals with ‘cone’ in it. These are silicone derivitives that give your hair this ‘plastic’ coating. When you switch to a natural or organic hair product, your hair may feel dry and knotty for the first few weeks because your hair is basically going through a detoxification process to eliminate the silicone or other chemicals from your hair. Once this process is complete, your hair may feel soft and silky.
Another example is the detoxification of the armpit. The switch to a natural deodorant may initially cause the individual’s body to be more smelly. This is due to the accumulated chemicals from using conventional deodorants that had blocked the body’s natural ability to function properly like sweating.
Regardless of how long it takes for your body to naturally detox, there are things you can do to speed up this detoxification process.
Tips To Quicken Detoxification Process
FOR DETOXING YOUR HAIR:
1) Prepare a bath with 1 cup sea salt, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, and 2 cups bicarb soda. Hop in the bath and swish your hair around in it. This needs to be done with a few baths for maximum benefit.
2) Make a paste of bicarb soda and your natural/organic shampoo and wash your hair with it a few times.
3) Make a paste of clay with your natural/organic shampoo and wash your hair with it a few times.
FOR DETOXING YOUR ARMPIT:
Mix 1 tablespoon of bicarb soda or clay, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, and 1-2 teaspoons of water together in a glass bowl. Then spread in an even layer over the armpits and let it sit for 5 – 20 minutes. (recommended to start with 5 minutes then gradually increase to longer time). If it hurts, then remove it straight away.
This application may cause some redness as it will increase blood-flow to the area, but it will go away quickly. Wash off with warm water. Repeat this daily or as needed until odor goes away and natural deodorant is non-irritating.

Facial cleansing wipes seems to be the quickest and most convenient way to freshen up during the day for some people. If you are like me and prefer to choose natural and organic face wipes rather than chemical ones from the supermarket, then you may want to continue reading this post. I thought about this topic because I have two different brands of facial cleansing wipes that I occasionally use when I feel like removing my makeup quickly after I come home from a long day at work.
I have one called Natures Organics Australian Pure Sensitive Cleansing Wipes and the other one is WOTNOT facial wipes for combination/sensitive skin. I would like to look closely at these two products and analyze their ingredients to see whether they contain any nasty ingredients even though their packaging claims that they are ‘organic’. As I have written in an earlier post called Benefits of Using Certified Organic Skin Care, if something claims to be ‘organic’, but there is no certification logo to back this claim, then it can not be fully trusted.
This post is not intended to put down the below products, but it’s simply to show you which product is better based on their ingredients. To me, the best facial cleansing wipes are those that do not contain any nasty ingredients at all. But the product ingredients will speak for themselves. To analyze these two products, I would use the chemical maze shopping companion guide and EWG website, which you can find in the Resources tab.
Nature Organics Australian Pure Sensitive Cleansing Wipes
Australian Made & Owned. No Synthetic Fragrance, No Mineral Oil, and Alcohol and Paraben Free. Choose Cruelty Free (CCF) Accredited.
Usually when ingredients contain names that are very long and difficult to pronounce, it’s more likely a chemical ingredient. The last two ingredients highlighted in red and circled in the image, are definitely ingredients that I need to look up in the Chemical Maze book. According to the book, it says that these ingredients are both preservatives and are banned in some cosmetics in Japan and restricted in Canada. Potential side effects include human skin toxicant; allergic reactions; sensitization; and suspected immunotoxicity.
Although these two preservatives are in very low amounts, I still prefer my products to not have nasty ingredients in them. But the rest of the other natural ingredients in this product seems alright. My personal rating for this product is 3 out of 5.
WOTNOT facial wipes for combination/sensitive skin
100% natural and biodegradable fibre, Free from Alcohol and Artificial Perfumes, Free from Parabens and Petrochemicals, Ideal for sensitive skin, and removes all make-up including waterproof mascara. Contains certified organic ingredients, and are not tested on animals.
Looks like this product has three ingredients that are certified organic. The rest of the ingredients are all natural. There’s nothing harsh about these natural and organic facial wipes. I prefer this product over Nature Organics Australian Pure Sensitive Cleansing Wipes . My personal rating is a 5 out of 5. If you want to find some WOTNOT products for your face or even for your baby, you can do a search in Amazon, which is located on the right-hand side of this post for your convenience.
Which one would you prefer to use? If you have enjoyed this post or have any other thoughts, please leave a comment below. If you want to keep up to date with my blog posts, remember to subscribe with your email.
Do you realize that toxic ingredients in cosmetics can be harmful for your health?
If you are a woman and wear makeup everyday to work, parties and other social events, then it’s better to take a better look into what you are putting on your face on a daily basis, and make sure that your products do not contain harmful chemicals that are associated with certain health problems.
If you are planning to have a baby, then I highly recommend you choose safe products during pregnancy. Any toxic chemicals the mother uses on herself will also be transferred to the baby! A great article that you can read about toxic chemicals in personal care products is found HERE.
This video about toxic chemicals in cosmetics will be an eye opener for everybody. It was produced in conjunction with the campaign for safe cosmetics. This is the main reason why I chose to use natural and organic products. I believe everyone should make that same choice too.

The best organic skin care products are those that have been certified. Do you know that the cosmetic and personal care industry is unregulated and companies are allowed to use almost any ingredients as they wish. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the US government does not review the safety of the products before they are sold to consumers.
There is a huge misrepresentation of the word ‘organic’. A company can claim something is ‘organic’ if it contains one ‘natural’ ingredient, but in actual fact, it may contain 100’s of the 10,500 harmful chemical ingredients that are commonly used in our personal care products. We call this greenwashing!
The only guarantee that an ‘organic’ claim is authentic is to have them certified by an independent regulation body, such as Australian Certified Organic (ACO). Certified organic products will carry a symbol, logo or other trade mark to indicate that they have achieved certification.
The benefits of using certified organic products and processes includes:
Independent third party guarantee of quality and purity of ingredients
Safe, clean and potent plant extracts of high vitality
Sustainable agriculture that respects, supports and nurtures the complete ecology and energy of our planet
Authenticity and integrity of ‘organic’ and ‘natural’ claims
Prevention of damage to the environment and humans by toxic chemicals used in conventional agriculture
What is Miessence?
Miessence is an Australian company which manufactures and distributes an extensive range of certified organic products that I love and trust. They have developed over 70 top quality innovative products for those people who want to truly live an organic lifestyle and minimise toxins in their home environment. The products are available worldwide.
My favorite products are the Miessence skin care products. Their skin care product range is quite broad. There is a product for every part of the face, such as a skin brightener, eye and neck serum, blemish gel and more. But their basic skin care essentials for our every day routine are designed around four different skin profiles.
