Make Your Own Gift Bag For Father’s Day

DIY Fathers Day Gift Bag


A few days now and it will be Father’s Day! This year, I will be making a very unique gift bag for my special dad! I made a video tutorial to show people how I made this gorgeous gift bag out of wrapping paper. You can do it too. I chose a funky design as you can see in the above picture. The gift bag is supposed to look like a T-Shirt, which I think suits the Father’s Day theme. You can choose your dad’s favorite colour, and make a gift bag with that colour!DIY Gift Tag

The gift tag that comes along with it also looks like a T-shirt too. You can make all kinds of things using paper. The good thing about making your own gift bag and tags is that you can customise it with whatever colours, shape, and size you want. I am sure your dad will appreciate a home-made gift bag just for him. All that effort put into it! :)

Antioxidant-Rich Pancakes

Anti-oxidant Rich PancakesHave you made pancakes that are so delicious that makes you want to make more of it? I have used a very simple recipe to make these pancakes and also adding my favorite secret ingredient to make them rich in anti-oxidants. It is called the Miessence Berry Radical anti-oxidant superfood!

If you feel like having pancakes, watch my video below where I show you how to make these tasty anti-oxidant rich pancakes with a few simple ingredients.

They are super easy to make and doesn’t take too much of your time. You can add your favorite fruits on top of these pancakes if you don’t like strawberries. You can also use maple syrup as an alternative for honey.

Ingredients you will need:

100g Plain Flour

2 Eggs

300ml Milk

1 tablespoon Sunflour Oil

Pinch of Salt

2 teaspoons Miessence Berry Radical

For decoration:

Fruits of your choice eg. strawberries

Icing sugar to sprinkle

Honey (or maple syrup)

Why Getting Enough Sleep Is Important

young-couple-sleepingOne of the major reasons why getting enough sleep is so important is because it will help with rejuvenating your body physically so that it functions properly.

Not enough sleep will cause you to feel lethargic the following day, and you will notice that your body doesn’t perform at it’s best. When you’ve had a good night sleep, you will wake up feeling more refreshed, energised, emotionally balanced, and have better concentration. 

I have found that not getting enough sleep affects my ability to focus and slows down my reaction. So if I get to work the following day feeling fatigued due to lack of deep sleep, it takes me longer to process information, especially when reading material. There is also that likelihood of making poor decisions or mistakes on the job, which isn’t good.

Other problems associated with not enough sleep includes a weakened immune system, easily irritable, hormonal imbalance, memory loss, mentally and physically tired. You will basically look tired to people around you! There is that possibility of falling asleep on the job or even while driving, which becomes dangerous. 

So, I would like to encourage everyone to get enough sleep at night for optimal function the next morning!

According to an article in Fernwood Magazine, “Nutritious eating, regular exercise and quality sleep are keys to good overall health, but lacking balance between these can leave you feeling like nothing’s working right”. (Source: Reset you body clock, March April 2015 edition, page: 16)

How much sleep do we need?

A healthy adult should aim to get at on average 8 hours of sleep. For younger individuals, this would vary. Infants need 16 – 18 hours, toddlers need about 12 hours, school-age children should get at least 10 hours, and teens need about 9 – 10 hours of sleep. (source)

What affects our sleep patterns?

stressed-at-workThere are certain groups of people who are at risk of not getting enough sleep, such as, night shift workers, entrepreneurs, physicians, truck drivers, people who travel a lot, parents, teenagers, and people with health disorders.

Stress is one of the major factors that can disrupt sleep. Circumstances such as traffic accidents, death of loved ones, marriage issues, students going through exam period, and work-related stresses can affect your normal sleep times.

Other factors include environmental factors such as interruptions from family members, temperature of room at night, neighbors having parties that are too noisy, your partner snoring or rolling around in bed.

You habits can also affect whether you will fall asleep at night. Working on your laptop, tablet, or playing with your smartphone, near bed time is not recommended because artificial light from these electronic devices stimulate brain activity, hence, affecting your ability to get a good night sleep.

According to Researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, they showed that exposure to artificial light from computer screens significantly reduced the levels of the hormone, melatonin, which is responsible for regulating our internal clocks and plays a role in our sleep cycle. (source

What Can We Do To Get A Good Night Sleep?

  • Avoid using electronic devices where you are looking at a bright screen. If you have to use it, then at least dim the lights or install a program called f.lux, which makes your computer screen adapt to the time of day, so that you will get a better sleep at night. 
  • Establish a nightly routine that will help you relax and switch off to prepare for bed. This means reading a nice book, have a cup of chamomile tea, listening to a mindfulness tape, and anything that you know will help you relax and de-stress.
  • Keep a regular sleep or wake-up routine
  • Get regular exercise, which helps with relieving stress. But try and exercise earlier during the day not near bed time. How can people sleep properly after getting hot and sweaty just before bed time? Unless it’s between the sheets, which can help with relaxation. 
  • Try going to bed earlier every night to get enough sleep
  • Avoid heavy meals, smoking, alcohol, and caffeine just before bedtime. Instead, have a glass of reduced-fat milk before bed time to help you fall asleep. Milk contains tryptophan, an amino acid that contributes to the production of sleep-promoting melatonin in the brain.woman-drinking-glass-of-milk
  • Try and wake up without an alarm clock (if you can). People who have established a regular sleeping and waking habit will not need to depend on an alarm clock because their body is conditioned to wake up at a certain time.
  • Make sure that you feel comfortable during sleep time. If temperature is too hot or cold, then it will disrupt your ability to have a deep sleep.

There are risks of not getting enough sleep for yourself and other people too. It can contribute to car accidents and work-related accidents.  

For example, if you are a medical doctor who needs to perform surgery on patients, then concentration is something that you need to take seriously. There is no room for mistakes. 

For adults, an average of 8 hours of sleep each night on a regular basis is necessary. But younger individuals more sleep. Practice those things that I mentioned above regarding what we can do to get a good night sleep. It will be better for you!

Living The Simple, Healthy, And Off-The Grid Life

OFF GRID LIVINGIn a world where people are expected to work to make a living, we are all brought up to believe that money is required to support our self and our family. We all need money to survive!

Wouldn’t it be good to not chase money all the time, but still live a comfortable lifestyle?

Would you believe that there are some minority groups of people who have built a comfortable and happy lifestyle without spending so much money.

There is a name for these types of people. They are called ‘freegans’. More info on freeganism is found HERE! 

I found an interesting video about a guy named Rob Greenfield living off the grid in San Diego. His debt-free and bill-free lifestyle caught my attention.

Rob have been living of the grid for a few years before he bought his own tiny house from craigslist for $950 and have been living there for about 4 months. His inspiring video below made me think about our own lives and how dependent we are on material things like money, car, warm water, refrigerator, electricity, a toilet that flushes, and other luxuries, that makes us feel comfortable.

This guy has shown us that it is possible to simplify life without the luxuries, and still feel comfortable. A sustainable and organic lifestyle that is harmonious to nature and good for our planet!

I Love Alpacas. So Does Mother Nature…Why?


What Are Alpacas?

Alpacas are one of mother natures favorite creatures. These beautiful animals can live up to 20 years, and are a fiber-producing member of the Camelid family (Vicuna, Guanaco, Llama and Alpaca). 

They are raised exclusively for their luxurious cashmere-like fleece, which comes in about 22 natural colours. This is more colours compared to any other fiber-producing animal. 

Alpacas are sheered once every 12 – 18 months and produce about 5-10 pounds of fleece per alpaca. The alpaca fiber feels as soft as cashmere, but it is warmer, lighter, more resilient, stronger, and a better insulator than wool. It is also hypo-allergenic, and lanolin-free.

Alpaca fiber are very popular for making all sorts of garments such as jumpers, jackets, scarfs, and mittens. They are great for making rugs too. 

Alpaca VS Llama

There are people who have trouble distinguishing between Alpacas and Llamas. Although these animals are members of the same family, they look quite different.

This is how you can tell them apart. Alpacas have straight ears, while llamas have banana shaped ones. Llamas are twice the size of Alpacas. Llamas have two layers of wool, while alpacas have one.

Alpacas have shorter faces and fibre on their face and their legs, while llamas have longer noses and do not have fibre on their legs. (source)

Alpaca Fleece Show In Melbourne Showgrounds (11th – 12th July 2015)

My recent attendance at the Alpaca Fleece Show in Melbourne was an eye opener when I saw so many different coloured Alpacas inside a shelter.

The weather was really bad when I arrived to the Alpaca show, but it was good to see the alpacas. I’ve taken a video and some nice pictures of alpacas that owners had brought to this event.

As mentioned above, alpacas have a variety of colours for their fleece. In the below picture, you can see a dark brown, light brown, and cream coloured alpacas.

Why Are Alpacas So Earth Friendly?

These animals are mother nature’s favorite farm animals because they have physical attributes that help them avoid harming the environment. They are very easy to care for, they are clean, safe and are resistant to disease. The attributes that make these wonderful creatures so eco-friendly are as follows:

  • Alpacas have soft padded feet with two toes. They do not have hooves. It’s as soft as a dog’s feet. This allows them to be gentle on the land. No damage at all!
  • Alpacas have a three compartment stomach that converts grass and hay to energy very efficiently. This means that they can eat less than other farm animals. 
  • Alpaca’s poo is a rich fertilizer that can be used by gardeners to grow fruits and vegetables.
  • Alpaca’s provide a yearly supply of fleece that is sufficient to create several warm sweaters for the owner’s comfort.
  • Alpaca’s eat mainly grass or hay. They do not eat much of it, probably around 2 pounds per 125 pounds of body weight per day.
  • Alpacas do not damage fences and gates. These animals are very easy to manage.


baby alpacaAlpacas are gorgeous creatures that are easy and safe to manage. Best of all, they are so earth-friendly and gentle to our environment.

Their diet mainly consisting of grass means that no trees are destroyed. Their fleece with their broad range of natural colours and special physical properties make them very attractive for making a variety of clothing. 

Alpaca fibre would be really handy during the cold seasons where we need some extra warmth. 

It would be so good to wear a sweater made of alpaca fibre during winter to keep warm, rather than switch on a heater that uses more energy. This would be the more eco-friendly approach.

Probiotics Are Good For People On Antibiotics

But when it comes to taking antibiotics for whatever health condition we have, these drugs can make us feel unwell with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and similar digestive problems, especially if the antibiotic therapy is a long one or at a high dosage.

Probiotics are helpful in times where we need to take antibiotics. One of the main reasons why we should take probiotics during our antibiotic therapy is because antibiotics will cause disruption to your digestive system.

The human gut is normally populated with beneficial bacteria, which we call gut flora. These beneficial bacteria are necessary to keep the unhealthy bacteria and yeast under control, so that they don’t over populate and cause digestive problems. They are also required for normal digestion and immune health.

The role of antibiotics is to kill bacterial infections. So when people start taking antibiotics, these drugs will try to destroy both the beneficial and unhealthy bacteria in the gut, which causes an unbalance in our digestive system.

Probiotics will repopulate our gut with beneficial bacteria to restore the balance, repair and prevent digestive problems. They are also helpful in protecting people from acquiring drug-resistant bacteria, which is a problem with overuse of antibiotics.
